Aubrey Beardsley, "Tarnhäuser's Return to the Venusberg", 1905
- This work is thought to have been inspired by Richard Wagner's opera "Tarnhäuser," and depicts Turnhäuser trying to return to Venusberg (Mount Venus), the otherworldly realm where Venus, the goddess of love, resides, in the far right corner of the painting. After Beardsley's death in 1898, a collection of his works was published in 1905 by the British publisher JM Dent. This work is the Dent edition.
