Aubrey Beardsley, "Title Page of Parade", c.1900, Lineblock
This is the title page decoration designed by Aubrey Beardsley for the book "The Parade," published in 1897.
The beauty of the composition, created by curves and decoration, stands out, making this piece a symbol of Beardsley's style in his later years.
On the left side of the painting, vertical stems and leaves reminiscent of plants extend, and elegant curves flow into the center. On the right, Middle Eastern candlestick-like decorations balance the painting, revealing Beardsley's distinctive orientalist taste and symbolic motifs.
This decorative composition, with its beautiful white space and precise linework, is like a poetic rendering of the space itself.
Although it is a piece intended to decorate the cover of a book, it can be considered a complete work of art in itself.
After Beardsley died in 1898, a memorial collection of his art was produced by John Lane Publishing, the publisher of his masterpiece, Salome, among others, and this work was included in it.
This is an original antique print produced at that time.
