Cassandre "Northern Railway (Chemin de fer du Nord)" Flyer with Timetable, 1929
This work is a small-sized flyer with a timetable, based on the poster "Chemin de fer du Nord" (Northern Railway) by Art Deco master Adolphe Mouron-Cassandre.
The front of the card features a sharp composition and geometric design, creating an abstract image of a powerfully speeding train. The sharp cut of the "N" in the title "NORD" is a symbol of heading north. The tagline "VITESSE - LUXE - CONFORT (Speed, Luxury, Comfort)" is written in gold letters at the bottom.
On the back, there is a timetable listing travel times between major cities of the time (Paris-London, Brussels, Berlin, etc.) along with the clear phrase "NORD. NORD. NORD." This is a masterpiece of 20th-century railway advertising, combining visual beauty and literary appeal.
