Cassandre "Maison Prunier" flyer (circa 1930)
This flyer, created by Adolphe Mouron-Cassandre, was created as an advertisement for Maison Prunier, a leading French luxury seafood restaurant.
A golden fish, lobster, and a few pieces of lemon are quietly placed on a white tablecloth. The sharp shadows and clever composition elevate the bounty of the sea to a work of art. The silhouettes of the fish and shrimp appear as if lurking beneath the table, creating a fantastical atmosphere.
Prunier is a representative Art Deco restaurant that opened in 1924 on Place Victor Hugo in Paris and is now famous for its caviar.
The back of the book contains information about restaurants in Paris and London at the time, making it a historical document linking French restaurant culture and commercial design.
