Jules Chéret, "Job" (from Les Maîtres de l'Affiche)
🎩 The sensuality and sophistication of 1890s Paris, dancing with smoke──
"JOB" by Jules Chéret (1836-1932) is one of his masterpieces, created as an advertisement for JOB, a long-established French manufacturer of tobacco rolling paper.
The composition of a redheaded woman in a bold yellow and white striped dress, smoking a puff of smoke and looking down at the viewer, symbolizes the sophistication and entertainment culture of Paris at the time.
This work was chosen as the first in the series "The Masters of Posters" and is a fitting opening piece for the series. The composition and colors of this work also had a strong influence on the poster that Mucha created for Job in 1896.
In the bottom right you can see the blind stamp (embossed) indicating that it is an original.
