Alphonse Mucha "La Traviata" 1902 Antique postcard (with handwritten poem)

This painting of La Dame aux Camélias by Alphonse Mucha is an antique postcard based on the poster for Alexandre Dumas fils' masterpiece play, La Dame aux Camélias. The play stars Sarah Bernhardt, the queen of fin de siècle Paris.
The figure of a woman in a white dress, surrounded by camellia flowers and with her back turned, exudes both transience and dignity. This work is a perfect fusion of performing arts and Art Nouveau within Mucha's distinctive decorative arch composition.
What makes this postcard special is that it contains a beautifully handwritten poem that was sent from Lille in the north of France on February 1, 1902.
The sender, Emile Brongeur, addressed the recipient, "Mademoiselle," to write a philosophical and lyrical poem: "Life is not all joy or all sorrow. Laugh like a spring reed, cry like a winter wind, and enjoy everything, even if it is only the shadow of a dream."
This leaf, in which beautiful decorative art and French poetry overlap across time, can be said to be a valuable document that condenses onto one page the literary, theatrical, and epistolary culture of the late 19th century .
