This photograph captures the dignified figure of Eugénie Buffet, the woman who sang of the era.
Lucien Métivet (1863–1932)'s "Eugénie Buffet at the Ambassador" is a poster depicting Eugénie Buffet performing at the Ambassador café-concert hall in Paris at the end of the 19th century.
With her red scarf fluttering and her hands in her pockets, she looks back at us, exuding the inner strength of a chanson singer who spoke for the working class and the suffering of society at the time. The letters of her own name, "Eugénie Buffet," painted on the wall in the background are left ringing out as if they were echoing in the noise of the city.
She was a star of the era, alongside Aristide Bruant and Yvette Guilbert, and in 1954 Edith Piaf played her role in Jean Renoir's film French Cancan.
This work is an original included in the lithograph collection "Les Maîtres de l'Affiche" and is in a preserved condition, linen-lined.
