"Ritania of the Stars - The image of a saint, yet unknown to the boy, in his mind"
During the quiet nights at his school, the young boy Jaufre's mind wanders to the stars in the sky. As he prays to each star, he imagines the figure of "her" he has yet to see - yes, the ideal vision he holds dear. To the tranquil chapel, the sparkle of gold and ivory, and the memory of a beautiful encounter recounted in recollection.

Work Description

This page marks the end of Chapter 1 of Part 1 of "Ilse, Princess of Tripoli."
The scene of the young monk Jaufre praying, known as the "Star Rosary," entrusting his feelings to the stars, is depicted with delicate Art Nouveau decoration. The intertwining plants on a gold and pale beige base and the circular iconography at the bottom of the page, like a microcosm, symbolize the inner mystery and depth of prayer.

The story then moves to a turning point when Jaufre remembers the name "Ilse" for the first time. His prayers and feelings for the stars eventually connect with the true image of the woman of his destiny... Pages 13-14 are highly symbolic scenes, as the "first signs" of this.

This work is included in the lavishly illustrated book "Ilse of Tripoli," published in German in 1901.
