Every spring afternoon, Jaufre walked through the orchards, guided by the scent of flowers. The soft fragrance of the fruit, the snow-white color of peaches and apples. But what he loved most of all was the flowers themselves - touching their souls.
Work Description
This work is a scene from the third chapter of Part 1 of "Ilse of Tripoli," and poetically depicts the inner world of the protagonist, Jaufre. The delicate sensitivity of the young man who loves gardens and finds a soul in each and every flower is expressed with beautiful botanical decoration. The top of the painting is decorated with a decorative band reminiscent of a bunch of grapes, and the bottom is lined with lotus-like flowers, creating a hymn to nature that is typical of Mucha.
The reclining female figure is interpreted as a symbol of spring or a spirit of nature, and can be seen as the embodiment of his "ideal woman" in his imagination. The soft curves and gentle colors characteristic of Art Nouveau add a dreamlike beauty to the work.
This work is included in the lavishly illustrated book "Ilse of Tripoli," published in German in 1901.
