A poster entitled "Lorenzo (Revised Edition)" by Alphonse Mucha, a representative Art Nouveau painter.
This poster was created for the revival of the historical play Lorenzaccio in 1896, in which Sarah Bernhardt played a male role for the first time. Following the original version created for the premiere, the play was revised and revived in 1897, but Bernhardt herself was dissatisfied with the ending and deleted the epilogue. The poster was also remade to reflect this decision.
The figure of Sarah, standing as the protagonist Lorenzo, wearing a cloak and holding a sword, is a symbol that transcends the boundaries of sex and power, and Mucha's brushwork gives it a new dramatic interpretation. The vertical format and heavy composition make this one of his most theatrical theater posters.
