A monster fish-shaped flying weapon and a mobile task force fly around, cutting through the night sky.
Painted by Albert Robida in 1883, "The Air Gendarmerie" is one of the most action-packed and socially satirical pieces from his masterpiece, "The Twentieth Century."
The Air Gendarmerie, a futuristic security agency that will deal with aerial crimes, seems to foreshadow modern-day drone security and aerial patrols.
The strangeness of the equipment and the overall humorous depiction make the film more than just a celebration of invention; it also exudes a satire of modernization and governance.
It is a visual masterpiece that combines science fiction imagination with late 19th century printmaking techniques.
