A piece that depicts the lingering aftertaste of the ball that lit up Montmartre.
"Moulin de la Galette" by Roedel (1859–1900) is a poster created to advertise the Moulin de la Galette, a famous dance hall located on a hill in Montmartre, north of Paris.
The place where this work was painted is also known for Renoir's masterpiece "Bal at the Moulin de la Galette," and was a mecca for entertainment and the arts where many artists and poets gathered. In the background are several windmills, and at their feet is a young woman in a red dress holding what appears to be a sketchbook - placed as a symbol of Montmartre, like an artist or a model.
This work is an original included in the lithograph collection "Les Maîtres de l'Affiche" (Masters of the Poster), and features a blind stamp (embossed) in the lower right corner indicating its original issue.
