This is an illustration (printed both ways) from Arthur Conan Doyle's A Scandal in Bohemia, which was published in the July 1891 issue of The Strand Magazine. The illustration was by Sidney Paget, known as the illustrator of Sherlock Holmes, and this work is the opening of the first story in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

The front side features an illustration of Holmes explaining the difference between "seeing" and "observing" to Dr. Watson, who is examining the handwriting in a letter he has received.

The reverse depicts a visit from the King of Bohemia, disguised in luxurious furs and a black mask.
